Kids & Hubris

Kids & Hubris – post on 2/22/2025

One of the most compelling words, in my opinion, is hubris. I could go on for days but what I really want to focus on is how hubris can negatively affect our students. One way is how hubris is tied to all the mass culture influences that befall our youth. There is hubris in those who peddle commercialism (products, music, videos, gaming) for monetary gain. In this scenario, one individual (or group) is keeping another (or others) down with that “shiny object” that pulls each individual student away from their individual greatness. When a child or youth lives for the latest post or product  of a celebrity, my heart breaks. I want to offer ways for students to see their greatness, grow their skills, and most importantly,
discern between quality and rubbish!
In particular, I offer a Meaning Mandala lesson inspired by Dr. Viktor Frankl, a Story in a Story (altered page) inspired by Dr. Viktor Frankl and a lesson called Art in Everyday Life (both nature and manmade). All are to bring the students back to the self. Education is a guarantee that protects an individual’s self fulfilment in life.
