Mandalas & Nature Photography

Mandalas are a unique and versatile art form. They can be seen all around the world in cathedral windows, Native American motifs, Buddhist sand paintings and they occur naturally in nature. Artist Andy Goldsworthy’s Earth Works often feature mandalas.
Mandalas have some hidden benefits for learning. Creating a mandala around a theme/concept/curriculum can do two things: 1. Using a few simple motifs from that content area will result in a sophisticated visual.
2. Working with the content visuals to create a mandala is a deep dive into the content and can transfer that information into long term memory. One more benefit is that a mandala can be made about any subject area: science, social emotional, math, literature, nature or even a very unique family photo!
My new resource – Mandalas & Nature Photography comes with the photographs, step by step visuals, tools and tips for you to make your own mandala and/or make more with your students. Have fun! Kimberly J.B. Smith
